| Case Study: Creating a Library's New Americans Center |
In 2006, Minnesota's Hennepin County Library system created a New Americans Center at the redesigned downtown Minneapolis Central Library. The new library, designed by international architect Cesar Pelli, included a bold feature: a study & media center for New Americans (immigrants & refugees). Custom Health Consultants conducted community-wide needs assessments, interviewed English Language Learners (ELL) at key education centers, organized focus groups, and discussed needs with library researchers in other U.S. cities.
The project resulted in the purchases of new bilingual & bicultural materials for immigrants & refugees of different language abilities. Recommended signage, artwork, and community involvement also occurred. A community-wide celebration of a family-centered New Americans Center for all generations occurred at the library opening. Today, English Language Learning (ELL) classes, workforce development, and arts/music celebrations celebrate Immigrant & refugee contributions throughout Minneapolis.

| Case Study: Designing Library Assisted Technology Services |
In 2005, the Friends of the Saint Paul Public Library made a commitment to improve their Assistive Technology (AT) services for library patrons with sight challenges. Custom Health Consultants helped redesign how AT were delivered. We conducted national research, personal interviews, and small focus groups. As a result, the library's new Access for Success Assistive Technology services expanded library services and increased user access.
